The morning sun turns Morro Bay into a bowl of turquoise and gold. You step onto the weathered dock with your pack slung over one shoulder, the smell of grilled fish and jasmine in the air.

You grew up in the little harbor town at the foot of Morro Rock, where the old world is remembered only in songs, rusted signs, and the occasional crumbling pier. The collapse was slow and gentle: governments faded, cities emptied, and nature took the wheel. Now the central coast is a warm, green frontier of fishing villages, trading routes, and overgrown ruins wrapped in bougainvillea. Life here is good, if simple. The sea provides. Neighbors share. And every evening the whole town gathers on the sand to watch the sun melt into the Pacific. But you have always felt the pull of the horizon. Beyond the rock lie the old bay towns, half-reclaimed by forest, where travelers swap rumors of sunken treasures, friendly rival crews, and festivals that last all weekend. Today you finally answer that pull. With a borrowed boat, a packed lunch, and more curiosity than sense, you set out to explore a coastline that feels less like a wasteland and more like a playground nobody owns. Will you become a trader, a explorer, a storyteller, or just the person who knows every secret cove from Morro Bay to Big Sur?

Look inside

The salt air bites at your skin, a harsh welcome to a world you have only seen in crumbling picture books. Behind you, the heavy steel doors of Morro Rock grind shut, locking out the wasteland and leaving you on the narrow, sun-scorched land bridge. The horizon ahead is blurred by heat haze and the rising smoke from the scavenged shacks of the bay below. You are small against the looming shadow of the rock, and the open road feels like a hungry beast waiting for a mistake. Three figures stand across the path, draped in mismatched armor fashioned from rusted scrap and sun-bleached plastic. They grip their makeshift rifles with calloused hands, watching you with eyes that have seen too much and expected too little. They do not attack, but they do not move, blocking your only exit from the sanctuary of the stone. The air grows thick with tension as one of them clicks a rusted bolt back into place, a sound like grinding teeth. They want a tax for the road, or perhaps they want to see if you are worth more as a prisoner than a traveler. Your pack is heavy with the small ration of supplies the elders gave you, and your hands are clammy against the rough fabric of your coat. The silence…
