You are born to peat smoke and the slow song of the hills, but the ground beneath your feet is no longer yours to keep. Landowners and laws whisper a new order: homes boarded, tenants counted, a choice forced upon you by boots and ledgers. You wake to embers of hearths cooling, neighbors packing what they can, and an uncertain route ahead—toward crowded ports, strange cities, or an ocean that promises both ruin and possibility. The wind carries rumors of passage and exile; every step is a negotiation between survival and the memory of what you must leave. You move through a landscape that remembers your ancestors and refuses to let you forget them. You must decide when to resist, when to bargain, and when to put your fate in the hands of a captain, a coachman, or a new town. Storms, hunger, and the weight of tradition press at your shoulders, but your voice, songs, and small acts of defiance can bind kin together or break you apart. The future is miles of road and salt spray—how will you carry your people forward?

Look inside

The mist clings to the heather like a damp shroud, chilling the marrow as the first light of dawn struggles against the heavy gray clouds of Sutherland. Inside the stone cottage, the air smells of peat smoke and damp earth. You have worked this land since birth, following the rhythm of the seasons, but the silence outside is unnatural. The usual lowing of cattle has ceased, replaced by the distant, rhythmic strike of metal against earth, growing louder with every passing minute. Your father pushes the heavy wooden door open, his face ashen, clutching a folded parchment sealed with black wax. He says nothing, merely pointing toward the hill where a line of men in red coats stands motionless against the skyline. They are accompanied by a group of strangers, men in fine wool coats carrying ledgers, checking the boundaries of the crofts with cold, clinical indifference. One of them raises a hand, signaling the soldiers to descend toward your home. Then comes the sound of a heavy boot striking the perimeter wall of your garden, followed by the splintering of wood as the stone fence collapses. The lead officer shouts an order that rips through the morning calm, his voice cutting off you…
