The wind off the glacier howls like a dying wolf, carrying with it the sharp scent of oncoming snow. You stand at the edge of the rocky shoreline, your boots sinking into the slush.

Greenland, 986 AD. The green valleys promised by Erik the Red have turned out to be a cruel, frozen lie. Your frontier settlement is starving, desperate, and rapidly losing hope. As the arctic winter closes its iron fist, massive shelves of drift ice grind through the fjord, threatening to crush and trap the colony's last seaworthy boat forever. In your shivering hands, you clutch a stolen ledger. Its pages hold secrets that could ruin the colony's elite—or serve as your golden ticket. The temptation burns hotter than any hearth: you could slip onto the vessel tonight, ride the dangerous currents out to the open sea, and leave this freezing hellscape behind. But doing so means abandoning the people who depend on you to survive the dark months ahead. Every decision in this unforgiving wilderness is a gamble against the elements. Will you succumb to the desperate whisper of self-preservation, or will you stay and face the icy trail of survival with those you call kin? The ice is closing in, and time has just run out.

Look inside

The wind off the glacier howls like a dying wolf, carrying with it the sharp scent of oncoming snow. You stand at the edge of the rocky shoreline, your boots sinking into the slush. Before you lies the Sæ-Konungr, the colony’s lone remaining longship, rocking violently against the wooden dock. The drift ice is already choking the mouth of the fjord, giant white teeth grinding together in the grey water. Beneath your heavy wool cloak, the stolen leather ledger presses hard against your ribs. It is heavy with the names of those who hoarded grain while children starved—proof enough to buy your way into any hall in Iceland, if you can only get there. But the ship’s mast is bare, and the frost is creeping up the hull. The cold is a living weight, pulling the heat from your marrow as you contemplate your next move. Behind you, the smoky peat fires of the settlement blink like dying embers in the gloom. You hear the crunch of snow. Someone is coming down the trail, lantern swinging low. You must act now, before the ice seals your fate or the watchman finds you holding the colony’s stolen secrets.
