The Testament of Whispers
The Great Palace of Constantinople drips with cold damp, the marble floors slick under the flickering oil lamps.
You are the Grand Logothete's most trusted investigator, the silent shadow who keeps the golden throne of Constantinople secure. But when Empress Maria’s secret testament—naming a nameless, illegitimate successor—is stolen from the high altar of the Hagia Sophia, the fragile peace of the empire shatters. Now, an innocent youth faces the executioner's block for a treasonous lineage they don't even know they possess. To find the thief, you must sift through the murmurs of plotting nobles and treacherous guards. The clues are hidden in plain sight, woven into the very tapestries of the palace and the sacred icons of the cathedral. But your investigation reveals a deeper, more terrifying mystery: a cryptic cipher linking this Byzantine coup to a bizarre, prophetic chronicle predicting a royal coronation collapsed by sudden illness in a distant, golden city called Tenochtitlan. Can you unravel the riddle of the two empires and expose the conspirators before the quiet knives find your throat? Every alliance you forge in these marbled halls is a knife waiting to be turned. Trust no one, scan every whisper, and solve the riddle before the crown falls.

The scribe’s ink-blackened fingers plucked compulsively at his coarse wool cloak; his eyes, wide and hollow with terror, tracked every clerk and eunuch pacing the perimeter. One hall over, Lady Theodora lingered beneath the colonnade, her pearl-studded hair catching the torchlight while her heavy brocade stola remained stiff and motionless as a shroud. Beneath the severed silk ribbon of the lockbox, Leontios’s fingernail caught on a fragment of beaten bark-paper wedged into the joinery. It was no Egyptian papyrus or monastic vellum. Rendered in dark cochineal pigment was a stepped pyramid topped with…
