You are Mina Cooper, an herbwife who has always preferred the quiet safety of the forest to the dangerous feuds of highborn dragonriders. But your peaceful life is shattered when you pull a locked blackwood box from the rushing river. Inside is not treasure, but a rare dragoon hatchling—and the moment its gold eyes open, it imprints on you. Because of the ancient magic of the bond, the hatchling cannot survive without you. Yet its mother, a towering dragon belonging to the Lord of Harrowmere, wants her baby back, and the ruthless Lord of Greywater is hunting the beast to secure his own power. Your only hope of survival is to seek shelter at Harrowmere Manor, negotiating your safety with Emrys Dray, a gruff dragonrider who is as fierce in battle as he is surprisingly protective of you. As the feuding lords prepare to bring their dispute to the Wardens' Moot, you are swept into a world of ancient laws, midnight raids, and a quiet, slow-burning trust that begins to heal your lonely heart. Can you protect the fragile hatchling and navigate the dangerous politics of the dragonrider houses without losing your hard-won independence?
