Great Trek (1836–1854)
You are a settler in the Cape Colony, tightening the straps on an oxwagon as dawn turns the veld to gold. You leave behind a cramped farm and the certainty of British rule for a horizon that promises freedom and danger in equal measure. Dust rises in the wake of your caravan, campfires stitch the nights together, and every river crossing, storm, and dusty pass tests the stubbornness of your people and the bonds of your family. You push into a land that is beautiful and indifferent, where strangers watch from distant kopjes and the mapmakers have drawn only rough lines. Hunger, fever, and lawless days lurk beside moments of fierce joy and hard-won community; every decision can protect or undo what you carry. You are chasing a new life, but the trek will demand courage, compromise, and a stubborn faith in the future you hope to build.
