The Queen's Whisper
You wake in a castle. Before you can place the room, Queen Iselda is at your bedside. She leans close — close enough that her crown brushes your hair — and whispers: 'Someone here plans to kill me.
You wake in an unfamiliar royal bedchamber — cold stone, a fire someone else lit, silk you did not buy. Before you can place the room, the queen is at your bedside. She smells of iron and rose oil. She leans close, close enough that her crown brushes your hair, and whispers seven words: "Someone here plans to kill me tonight." Then she is gone, and the court is awake, and every servant carrying a tray, every noble at the long breakfast table, every guard at every door is a face you will have to decide about before the bells ring vespers. Warn her openly and become her shield. Slip to the conspirators and become their knife. Or say nothing, and let the kingdom decide which side of the bloodstain you end up on. Every corridor remembers. Every goblet remembers. So does the queen.
Look inside

You wake in a castle. Before you can place the room, Queen Iselda is at your bedside. She leans close — close enough that her crown brushes your hair — and whispers: 'Someone here plans to kill me.' She is gone before you can answer. From the hall you can hear the court waking: the clatter of trays, a lute being tuned badly, a guard laughing at something a serving girl said. The bells for morning prayer have not rung yet. You have, at most, an hour before the day begins in earnest and you are expected somewhere. You sit on the edge of the velvet mattress, heart hammering against your ribs. The queen possesses a terrifying focus, yet she spoke without a tremor in her voice. You are a footnote to this court, a cousin invited only to balance the seating charts at dinner. If you act now, you mark yourself as either a guardian or a traitor in a room full of wolves.
